Ο Πρόεδρος των Ηνωμένων Πολιτειών, Ντόναλντ Τραμπ, αποφάσισε να στείλει 2.000 στρατιώτες της Εθνοφρουράς από την Καλιφόρνια στο Λος Άντζελες, παρά τις αντιρρήσεις του κυβερνήτη Γκάβιν Νιούσομ.Αυτή η κίνηση έρχεται μετά από δύο ημέρες έντονων συγκρούσεων μεταξύ διαδηλωτών και ομοσπονδιακών αρχών μετανάστευσης.
Σύμφωνα με πληροφορίες από το Associated Press, οι ταραχές ξέσπασαν το Σάββατο (7/6) σε μια περιοχή με υψηλή λατινοαμερικάνικη παρουσία νότια του Λος Άντζελες. Η κατάσταση είχε ήδη επιδεινωθεί λόγω μιας σειράς εκκαθαρίσεων που πραγματοποιήθηκαν από τις μεταναστευτικές αρχές την προηγούμενη ημέρα, με τον αριθμό των συλλήψεων να ξεπερνά τις 100 στην πόλη. Ένας γνωστός συνδικαλιστής συνελήφθη κατά τη διάρκεια των διαμαρτυριών και κατηγορήθηκε για παρεμπόδιση της επιβολής του νόμου.
Ο Λευκός Οίκος ανακοίνωσε ότι η αποστολή της Εθνοφρουράς έχει σκοπό να «αντιμετωπίσει την ανομία που έχει αναπτυχθεί», χωρίς ωστόσο να διευκρινίζεται πότε θα φτάσουν τα στρατεύματα. Από την πλευρά του ο Γκάβιν Νιούσομ δήλωσε μέσω ανάρτησης στο X ότι η ενέργεια αυτή είναι «εσκεμμένα προκλητική» και θα εντείνει μόνο τις υπάρχουσες εντάσεις.

Εξελίξεις στις Διαμαρτυρίες
The order from Donald Trump came after clashes in Paramount and nearby Compton where a vehicle was set on fire. Protests continued into the evening with hundreds gathering near a donut shop as authorities erected barricades to contain the crowd in Los Angeles.
Pockets of protesters also gathered outside federal buildings downtown Los Angeles including a detention center where local police declared an assembly unlawful and began making arrests.

The deployment of California’s National Guard by Donald Trump was executed under his authority which places him at the top of the hierarchy rather than leaving it solely to the governor according to gavin Newsom’s office.
The White House spokesperson Caroline Livitt stated that actions taken by immigration authorities during protests are “necessary to stop and reverse the invasion of illegal criminals into the U.S.”, adding: “Considering this violence, incompetent Democratic leaders in California have completely shirked their obligation to protect their citizens.”

This presidential action followed Trump’s social media threat suggesting that if Governor Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass did not “do their job,” then “the federal government would intervene and solve this problem as it should be solved!” In response nuisome emphasized that local authorities “are able to access law enforcement assistance at a moment’s notice” stating “there is currently no unmet need.” The California Highway Patrol reported that Newsom ordered additional officers deployed for “public safety.”
Sweeping Arrests in LA
The protests began on Friday (6/6),following federal agents arresting 44 individuals for violating immigration laws.
The Department of Homeland Security later reported that recent police operations resulted in detaining 118 immigrants including five linked with criminal organizations.
David Huerta regional president of International Union of Service Workers was also arrested during Friday’s protest.
The Justice Department confirmed on Saturday (7/6) that Huerta remains detained at Metropolitan Detention Center awaiting his court appearance scheduled for Monday (9/6). Chuck Schumer minority leader called for his immediate release warning against an alarming pattern of arresting American citizens exercising their right to free speech.
